Once in a while, you meet someone who is very passionate about his craft and the industry he is in. Today, I met Jonathan dela Cruz of Guitar 1. I first encountered his name and his brand, Elegee, when I was researching custom guitar shops in Manila about seven years ago. I always wanted to visit his Sta. Mesa shop, but never got around to it.
Last night, one of my Seagull’s strings snapped. Instead of just buying and changing the string myself, I decided to just bring it to Guitar 1, since I thought its action was quite high and I have been meaning to have that particular guitar set up by a luthier. They are currently located along E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave., which is roughly 10 minutes away from my house.
They were all busy when I arrived, but they still accommodated me even without an appointment. My guitar was barely playable when I left the house. But a few hours later, I remembered the reason why I asked for that guitar one Christmas.
Thank you, sir Jon! And thank you to the rest of the Guitar 1 team! I can finally finish that album I started a few years ago.
Now, this guitar just needs a hard case, and then we are all set for 2014!
